Library: Style sheets: APA, MLA, Chicago style

Need Help with Citing?

The three citation styles used most often at universities are:

  • APA Style (American Psychological Association)
  • Chicago Style (also known as the Turabian Style) which actually has two different styles:
    • Author-Date
    • Humanities (or "Notes & Bibliography")
  • MLA (Modern Languages Association)

Ask a Librarian:

Generally speaking, the APA Style is used for social sciences -- Psychology, Sociology, Social work, Education, Health Sciences, Phys.Ed.  At Redeemer, the Chicago Style is used for History, Philosophy, Religion, Political Science, Music.  The MLA Style is used for English, French, and Theatre Arts courses.  If you're not sure, your professor will tell you which one to use for his/her course. For help with citing your sources, consult the style sheets below.  Each one provides sample citations of commonly cited resources, e.g. book, journal article, website, journal article in database, etc.  For further assistance, contact a librarian either at the Research Assistance Desk or by phone or email.   Students are also welcome to set up an appointment with a librarian.
