Library: How to Renew Your Books

Renew Your Own Loans

The library policy allows a maximum of two renewals per item (1 renewal for community borrowers) as long as another person has not requested the item.  After the final renewal, the item must be returned to the library.

Two days before your book/item is due, you will receive an email renewal notice:

Note: If you receive an email notice reminding you that your books are soon due to be returned, you cannot renew your books by simply replying to the email.  You must login to your account in order to renew your loans (or contact the library circulation desk if you need help).

Step 1: Go to  My Account.

When you are in the library catalogue, click  My Account (under Library Links):

Step 3: Enter your student/ID number and your password in the spaces provided, then click Sign In.

Step 4: Your information appears. To renew your items, click on the Renew button next to the title.

Step 5: If the renewal is successful, you will see a message indicating that your item has been renewed along with a new due date. If the item cannot be renewed, you will get a message saying so.

WHEN RENEWING DOES NOT WORK:

You will know that the renewal did not take place if instead of a new due date, the computer says Not Renewed in the Renewal Status column. There are a few possible reasons why this may have happened:

1. There is a hold placed on the book by another library patron. You must return the book to the library by the due date.
 
2. You have an unpaid balance reaching or exceeding $20.   Borrowing privileges will be withheld if the total fines reach or exceed $20. You will have to come to the library and pay at least part of the fine to keep the total fine below $20 before you will be allowed to borrow or renew.
 
3. Your account has expired.   This happens upon graduation if you are a student. The accounts of alumni and community borrowers will expire annually -- one year from the date of registration.

Please note:  When renewing online outside of the library, it is the responsibility of the patrons to ensure that their renewals are done properly. If you have printer access, it is highly advisable that you do a print screen of your record of renewal(s) for use as proof if discrepancies with our library records occur at a later date. Overdue fines will incur if renewals are not done properly.

Set/reset your password or Sign in to review your account:

Go to My Borrower Account and Sign in:

Students enter the ID# on your RUC Express card beginning with enough zeros to total 7 characters.  If your RUC ID# is followed by a space and 01, this should be ignored. If you are unsure of your password, click "Set/reset password."

Staff and faculty ID#s must be preceded by a B followed by 7 digits.  For example, if your RUC ID is 201, your Library Account ID# will be B0000201. If you are unsure of your password, click "Set/reset password."

Community Borrowers enter 14-digit barcode # on the back of your library card beginning with 02758. If you are unsure of your password, click "Set/reset password."

Click the "Renew" button next to the title(s) you want to renew:

Overdue books can be renewed (twice) in order to avoid further charges:
