Tailor King: the rise and fall of the Anabaptist kingdom of Münster by Anthony ArthurPublication Date: 1999-09-01
As the leader of a radical sect of persecuted Anabaptists in 16th-century Germany, Jan van Leyden created a New Zion and waited for the final apocalyptic battle against his godless oppressors. After repeated attacks by the local Prince Bishop were repelled with humiliating ease by King Jan's army, the Prince Bishop and Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, began a 16-month-long siege on the upstart king. Jan was ultimately defeated and was sentenced to death in the town square above which the cage he was imprisoned in still hangs today.
Erasmus, the Anabaptists, and the Great Commission by Abraham FriesenPublication Date: 1998-03-01
Many scholars have pointed to the influence of Erasmus on the early Swiss Anabaptists and Menno Simons. Yet the extent of this influence has never been firmly established. This volume uses new research data and arguments to build convincing case for the early Anabaptist movement's dependence on Erasmus's thought. Friesen traces the intellectual origins of both Swiss Anabaptism and Menno Simons to the writings of Erasmus.

Steiner writes that Ontario Mennonites and Amish are among the most diverse in the world--in their migrations and cultural roots, in their theological responses to the world, and in the ways they have pursued their salvation. This book describes the emergence and evolution of today's streams of Ontarians who identify as Mennonite or Amish from their arrival in Canada to the last decade. It also considers how Mennonites have reacted to evangelical fundamentalism and mainline Protestantism.

The German Peasants' War and Anabaptist Community of Goods by J. StayerPublication Date: 1991-01-01
During the 16th century's tumultuous years of religious reformation and revolution, Pilgram Marpeck consistently but discreetly stood up to the ruling powers, calling for freedom of religioin and separation of church and state. Walter and William Klassen have deeply mined Marpeck's writing and dialogue with other Reformation leaders. They place his life, work, and theology in the context of his violent, changing times. This thorough biography shows how Marpeck, perhaps more than any other early Anabaptist figure, helped lay the theoretical and practical foundations of the believers church.
