Hindu Nationalism by Chetan BhattThis book examines the history and ideologies of Hindu nationalism from the end of the last century to the present, and critically evaluates the social and political philosophies and writings of its main thinkers. Hindu nationalism is based on the claim that it is an indigenous product of the primordial and authentic ethnic and religious traditions of India. The book argues that these claims are based on relatively recent ideas, frequently related to western influences during the colonial period. The author considers the consequences of Hindu nationalist resurgence in contemporary debates about minorities, secular citizenship, ethics and modernity.

Unifying Hinduism by Andrew J. NicholsonNicholson argues that the idea of a unified Hindu identity is not as ancient as many Hindus claim. Drawing on the work of philosophers from late medieval Vedanta traditions, including Vijnanabhiksu, Madhava, and Madhusudana Sarasvati, Nicholson shows how thinkers portrayed Vedanta philosophy as the ultimate unifier of diverse belief systems. This late medieval project paved the way for Vivekenanda, Radhakrishnan, and Gandhi, whose teachings promoted the idea that all world religions belonged to a single spiritual unity. Nicholson revisits monism and dualism, theism and atheism, and orthodoxy and heterodoxy, and critiques them.

Hindu Ethics by Roy W. PerrettThis monograph is a philosophical study of classical Hindu ethics. The first apparent impediment to such a project is that while classical Indian philosophy is incredibly rich in rigorous discussions of topics in epistemology, logic and metaphysics, comparable discussions in philosophical ethics do not abound.
