ENG 346: 19th-Century Literature: Victorian

This full-length study of the life and work of English poet and critic Matthew Arnold reviews his influential ideas about culture, literature, and society and examines his prose and poetry in light of his Victorian background. Chapters are devoted to such subjects as Arnold's childhood, his marriage, and his criticism.
