REL 121: From the Word to the World

A Guide to Library Resources

Of the hundreds of websites available, here are a few recommended by Dr. David Beldman, especially for undergraduates:

Go to https://www.esv.org/

The ESV (English Standard Version) online has a valuable search engine that organizes search results according to the books of the Bible. You can define/restrict your search to books or sections of the Bible.

Use a Bible version of your choice.  Go to https://www.blueletterbible.org/

Use the study tools in the top menu bar:

Go to https://thebibleproject.com/

The Bible Project produces outstanding videos on the biblical books, themes, etc.

The OADTL provides access to almost 200,000 books, 10 million articles, more than 6,200 journals, 85 databases and research aids.

"The mission of Open Access Digital Theological Library (OADTL) is to curate high-quality content in religious studies and related disciplines from publisher websites, institutional repositories, scholarly societies, archives, and stable public domain collections. The OADTL uses the world’s most advanced integrated library system (ILS) for cataloging and discovery. This system, OCLC’s WorldShare, makes content easily discoverable and retrievable. The OADTL is staffed by professional librarians and curates content without regard for theological or confessional perspective. It is hoped that the increased access to high-quality religious studies content will serve scholars and students of religion." [from the OADTL website]
