REL 121: From the Word to the World

A Guide to Library Resources

Finding Articles on Translation Issues

Go to  EBSCO Services on the library Databases page and try the following search.. Then select EBSCOhost Web and then ATLA Religion Database.

Then select Scriptures from the top menu bar and follow the links to select the Biblical passage you are researching. This will result in a Scripture Reference (SR) search. You can also do a Scripture Citation (SC) search as shown in the second box below. Enclose your citation in quotation marks in order to search for it as a phrase.

Translation issues: syntax/syntactical difficulties

You might want to narrow your results to those dealing with a sub-topic, e.g. issues related to translating the text from the original language.

You will need to combine the SR and SC search into one box using the OR connector. Then use the AND connector between boxes.

Relevant keywords:

  • translating, translation (Hint: use the truncation symbol  -- translat*)
  • syntax, syntactical
  • language, linguistics
  • semantic, semantics

The second box below has: translat* OR synta* OR language OR linguistic OR semantic*
