Library: Off-campus Access

Welcome to Off-Campus Access FAQ

How can I use the off-campus web proxy service?

  1. Enter your Redeemer ID and Password in the Login screen for Off-campus Access.
  2. You may be taken directly into the database of your choice.  If not, select from the list provided or go to a Direct Link to Popular Databases (see below).
  3. To visit a specific link/URL: copy-and-paste the desired URL into the URL box.
  4. Click here to Logout of the off-campus web proxy service.

The key thing to remember is that, once you are logged in, you can only follow links.  Once you open a new browser window or enter a new URL directly into your browser address box, you will be taken out of the connected environment.

Navigation tips:

  • Once you login, you will be 'connected from off-campus' as long as you continue to work within the SAME web browser window. If you open up a new browser session/window, you will NOT be proxied in the new session/window.
  • Do not use your Home button, your favorites or bookmarks.
  • To exit from the proxy, close your web browser.

How can I tell if I am properly connected?

As long as you can see "libproxy.redeemer" in the URL in your browser window (see picture above), you are still connected.

Why do I need to login when I'm off-campus?

The library must sign licensing agreements with our online content providers, which require us to ensure that only current members of the Redeemer community use these resources.  Many of our content providers authenticate with Redeemer on-campus ip addresses.  In order to access these databases from off campus, users must login to a proxy server which then acts on behalf of a computer with an on-campus ip address.

You will need your Redeemer username and password to access the following from off campus:

  • links to fulltext in most library databases (EBSCOhost, JSTOR, WorldCat etc)
  • most eBooks & online journals
  • Google Scholar with links to fulltext in Redeemer library databases

Who can access these licensed online resources?

The library must sign licensing agreements with our online content providers, which require us to ensure that only current members of the Redeemer community uses these resources.  We only restrict access when a license agreement requires us to do so. Unfortunately, we cannot provide off-campus access to:

  • community borrowers
  • alumni
  • former faculty or staff
  • students who are not currently enrolled & paying tuition fees
  • Adjunct professors/lecturers who do not have a current teaching contract

How can I get help with database searching?

For self-directed research, consult the Database guides produced by our librarians.  Or contact a librarian for help.
